Barry Gerson: ELIXIR OF LIGHT
Barry Gerson’s Elixir of Light: Intuition, LED Lights and Healing Oneself Through the Super Brain is a memoir of the artist’s explorations with color LED therapy lights to heal the various maladies that accompany aging, combined with a reiteration of his theories regarding the energy powers of light and intuition. The work fluctuates between hands-on experiments and the artist’s thoughts about the Universe, with poetic interludes.
Former Whitney and Smithsonian curator John Hanhardt has written a foreward to the book, focused on Gerson’s impact as an artist. French neurologist Pierre LeMarquis, author of The Art That Heals, has added an introductory essay addresses Gerson’s role as the latest in a long line of artists who have pioneered new scientific and medical discoveries.
Paul Smart, author and filmmaker, conceived of the art book that utilizes Gerson's text and images, and worked with designer Anja Aronska and printers Grafica Premier to create the unique work. Elixir of Light is uniquely designed to make its points via art, including front and back flipbook cinematic experiences and an addendum made up of Gerson’s use of various “power objects” to guide his intuition through medical experiments and artistic creation.
The book is available via publisher Station Hill Press, and online at Amazon.com.
I have the light held in my hand — I have the light
in my brain, in my feet, in my legs, in my heart.
It is pulsating in my blood as it flows throughout my body
I have chosen to use it — It that comes
from where I come from.
